Next we visit Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. We will also stop here for lunch.

After floating in the Dead Sea at Kalia Beach, the lowest point on earth – at least 400m below sea level, we drive to our hotel in Bethlehem for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 - July 16th

This morning after breakfast we visit Shepherds Fields where the angels announced the birth of Yeshua. Luke 2:8-14. The traditional place of the angel’s visit is the town of Beit Sahur.

We then visit the birthplace of Christ at the Nativity Church. The only doorway in the fortress-like front wall is just 1.2 metres high. To Christians, it seems appropriate to bow low before entering the place where God humbled himself to become man. When the original Church of the Nativity was built, the cave was enlarged to make room for pilgrims and a silver manger was installed.

After lunch, we drive to Jerusalem, our first stop is at Mount Zion, see King Davids tomb. We visit the Upper Room, also known as The Cenacle. It is also the site of the Last Supper, the final meal that Yeshua shared with His disciples. John 14:18

Next we visit St Peter of Gallicantu, where Yeshua was jailed after his arrest by the Romans. On the roof is a golden rooster atop a black cross — recalling Christ’s prophesy that Peter would deny him three times “before the cock crows”. Galli-cantu means cockcrow in Latin.

Peter’s denial of Christ is recorded in all four Gospels (most succinctly in Matthew 26:69-75). Three of the Gospels also record his bitter tears of remorse.

Under the church is a dungeon thought to be the cell where Jesus was detained for the night following his arrest.

It is in this dungeon, in the darkened room, where our Saviour was held, that we will read Psalm 88.

We then drive to our hotel in Bethlehem for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - July 17th

After breakfast this morning, we will drive to Mount Olives. The hill, also called Mount Olivet, takes its name from the fact that it was once covered with olive trees.

Our first stop is the Church of Pater Noster: Recalling Christ’s teaching of the Lord’s Prayer, this church features translations of the prayer in 140 languages, inscribed on colourful ceramic plaques.

Thereafter we visit Dominus Flevit church, which translates from Latin as “The Lord Wept”, this was fashioned in the shape of a teardrop to symbolise the tears of Christ.

Jesus often travelled over the Mount of Olives on the 40-minute walk from the Temple to Bethany. He also went there to pray or to rest.

He went down the mount on his triumphal entry to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, on the way weeping over the city’s future destruction (Luke 19:29-44).

In a major address to his disciples on the mount, he foretold his Second Coming (Matthew 24:27-31).

He prayed there with his disciples the night before he was arrested (Matthew 26:30-56). And he ascended into heaven from there (Acts 1:1-12).

We visit the Church of All Nations (Basilica of the Agony): A sombre church at Gethsemane, built over the rock on which Jesus is believed to have prayed in agony the night before he was crucified.

In Jewish tradition, the Messiah will descend the Mount of Olives on Judgement Day and enter Jerusalem through the Golden Gate (the blocked-up double gate in the centre of the eastern wall of the Temple Mount, also known as the Gate of Mercy, or the Beautiful Gate).

For this reason, Jews have always sought to be buried on the slopes of the mount. The area serves as one of Jerusalem’s main cemeteries, with an estimated 150,000 graves.

We will have some free time for lunch in the Old City. We meet and visit the Holy Sepulchre Church, Thereafter we have Communion Service at Garden Tomb (a tranquil environment for prayer and reflection) after a short talk overlooking Golgotha. We have an opportunity to enter the Tomb and witness that it is indeed empty. The open tomb carved into a rock face, with skull-like erosion in a limestone cliff nearby.

We drive back to our hotel in Jerusalem for dinner and overnight.

Scripture relating to today’s events:

  • King David flees over the Mount of Olives: 2 Samuel 15:30
  • King Solomon builds pagan temples: 1 Kings 11:7-8
  • “Glory of the Lord” stops on Mount of Olives: Ezekiel 11:23

  • Jesus foretells his Second Coming: Matthew 24:27-31

The Resurrection: Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; John 20:1-10

Day 7 - July 18th

This is our last day in the Holy Land.

We will pack our bags and bring to the lobby before breakfast. We start our day at the Pool of Bethesda, where Yeshua healed the paralytic man, who waited for 38 years for someone to help him when the waters were stirred. See John 5:2-18.
We visit St Annes church, birthplace of Mary.
Next we will walk down the Via Dolorosa, also known as the Way of Sorrows, and we pass under the Ecce Homo Arch. We visit the Lithostrotos, also known as Hadrian’s plaza . We see the many places where Yeshua carried the cross.

Today we can have lunch in Jewish Cardo. We visit the Western Wall at the Kotel, this is the holiest place for Jews, where they pray and worship. It is also believed to be that last remaining wall on the temple. The wall is also a place for celebrations, especially of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.

Time permitting, we can do some last minute shopping in the Old City.
We then transfer to the airport for our journey home.

Dinner and Overnight on Board.
